Pennsauken Marine slated to return home soon killed in Iraq

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. � A Marine from Pennsauken who just hours earlier had been talking with his parents about his impending return home was killed in Iraq on Sept. 14.

Cpl. Terry Allen was shot in the head while he was on the Al Asad Air Base in Anbar province, apparently by a sniper, his parents said Sept. 15.

John and Connie Allen said they�d just talked with their son hours before he was shot, and that the 21-year-old was scheduled to come home from Iraq on Sept. 18.

�We really thought we were in the clear,� John Allen told the Courier-Post of Cherry Hill for the Sept. 16 newspapers. �We thought about how lucky we were he was coming...

I am so very sorry for the loss of your son. I know that no words can ever make you feel less pain. I cannot imagine losing a child so young. I will keep your family and your son in my prayers. I lost my husband on 9/11 so your son will always be a hero to our nation.

Phil worked for me when he volunteered to deploy to Iraq with the Joint Contracting Command. He was a great officer, a great friend and an incredible husband/father. He was just a couple of days away from returning from his deployment. I received an email from him on 5 April requesting to stay a bit longer so he could finish the job started. I had not yet responded to his email when I was notified by our Commanding Office on Easter morning that Phil had been killed. Miss you Phil!
